The founder of Concrete Like Concrete, Stephan Schliebusch, has been involved in interior decoration and the restoration of antique objects as well as design since 1986. He received his training as a restorer in Florence at the Palazzo Spinelli Institute.
His path then led to Sotheby’s in New York, where he restored elaborate marquetry in the lobby of the Chrysler Building, carried out church restorations in New Jersey and worked with the artist James Lee Byars, gilding several objects now on display at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York – along with many other artistic works.
In 1999 he founded the company Stoneslikestones, which deals with various decorative wall coverings.
The wish to create an entirely new surface grew out of these years of constant inspiration.
This is how the revolutionary idea took shape: to create concrete as an artistic surface only a few millimetres thick – and therefore accessible to design-loving clients and architects.
Production had to be authentic and as environmentally friendly as possible. The first design was the classic HeavyRoll NEW YORK, followed by all the other surfaces up to the nature-inspired Concrete Art line, such as LINES, WAVE and CONCRETE FLOWER.
Countless clients across several continents – from China, the USA, Brazil and Canada to many European countries – use these surfaces for private and commercial projects.
